Biking Centennial Trail

We followed our neighbors up to the northern part of the Centennial Trail. Originally, we were going to try the new northern extension, but the neighbors thought the next section south was more scenic. We attempted the northern ten miles of the older part of the trail, beginning just east of Lake Stevens and ending just south of Arlington. Debby managed 5 miles round trip. I did 18, and the neighbors did the whole 20 miles. Being in cell phone contact, we kept the group together sort of. We finished with a picnic by Lake Cassidy. It was a warm day.

Debby's shortened trip was due to a dragging front brake pad which went uncorrected for the first uphill part of the trip, convincing her it was going to be just too hard. Mea culpa. I had installed the front wheel slightly off center after removing the bike from the car rack. Tricky business.

I managed to locate all the pieces for my Yakima bike rack and was gratified to learn it fit the new (2002) A4. It was last used probably 25 years ago on a 1984 5000. We are trying to become a biking couple. The trails here are wonderful.

We saw turkey vultures flying, a Peregrine falcon on a pole, and bear scat on the trail (filled with seeds from Oregon grapes according to our 'guide'). A sign at the trail head warned of cougar sightings. The paved trail with wide grassy shoulders was well utilized by bikers, recumbent bikers, roller bladers, skate boarders, hikers, horse riders, and miscellaneous family pets.
