Debby got us out once more a week ago. She is finding foodie-type places in downtown to explore, perhaps a couple a month.
The day's target was lunch at Serious Pie, a gourmet pizza place. We wanted to leave the car and try public transport. I had my new senior-rate Orca transit card, so the 25 minute express trip from the local park and ride to the downtown transit center was only $1.25, an unbeatable bargain. From there, it was less than a 3 block walk.
But as feared, the park and ride at 10:30AM was full to the brim. Even all the illegal spots were taken. We were about to give up when I saw a car backing out on an aisle we were passing. It seemed to take forever (I wasn't driving), but we got back to the space and it was still there. We weren't the only ones looking. I consider that my once in a year luck-out.
We waited only 5 minutes for our bus and were at the restaurant at 11:10. It was a great lunch. We found the outbound bus stop and found we had 10 minutes to wait. A mentally impaired street person harassed me for a couple of minutes at the bus bench, which wasn't fun, but it was the only hitch in the experience. That's the nature of public transit. I am not sure I would want to sit at a bus stop downtown at night, though. Maybe if I dressed more like a street person, I would not attract as much attention.
We are checking out taking a local bus from our supermarket parking lot to the park and ride lot for our next downtown excursion, since lucking into a parking space next time might mean circling the lot for an hour, which would kind of defeat the purpose.
